About the Artists

Yep! That's me working on rawhide designs.

Yep! That’s me working on rawhide designs.

I am a recent transplant to the West.  Along with my wife Georgia, we are enjoying our new digs and have been intrigued by the history and myth of the old west

Teaching art at a local High School has afforded me the luxury of exploring interesting materials and subject matter without an eye on the bottom line.  While researching the sculptural potential of Rawhide I  amassed quite an interesting collection of small scrap pieces.  The light weight and translucent material reminded me of mica and amber, prompting me to associate it with jewelry.  After playing with the pieces and combining them with other materials, I made my wife a very elegant necklace and earring set for New Year’s Eve.

After doing multiple web searches for rawhide jewelry I began to get the idea that what I had in mind was not being done and that if there was one place in the world that contemporary rawhide jewelry might go over well it would have to be Cheyenne, Wyoming. Since then Georgia has joined the team as a co-designer and studio manager (she makes me clean up once in a while!) Rawhide studio is now in many fine retail and gallery shops as well as an online store.

Rawhide Studio’s customers are always, “Ahead of the Herd in Jewelry Style”!
